Lieutenant Colonel Arun Bhimrao Harolikar Who Forced Enemy to Surrender

Lieutenant Colonel Arun Bhimrao Harolikar was commanding a battalion of 5 Gorkha Rifles which was tasked to capture an enemy position in the Eastern Sector. When his two assaulting companies got held up due to intense enemy fire, Lieutenant Colonel Harolikar led the remaining battalion into assault along a difficult approach behind the enemy. After waging an intense battle with the enemy, the battalion captured the enemy position. The resolute action displayed by the battalion under his inspiring leadership broke the enemy’s will to resist, resulting in early surrender of the entire garrison of several thousand enemy personnel. He showed the charismatic leadership and devotion to duty and he was awarded Mahavir Chakra for his bravery.
