Decorated counter-insurgent Army Officer martyred on Sunday was once a terrorist himself
   27-Nov-2018

Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani martyred in an anti-terrorist operation, in which six terrorists were also killed by the Indian Army. Nazir was seriously injured during the anti-terror operation of Indian Army at Batagund village in Shopian on Sunday. He belonged to Cheki Ashmuji village in Kulgam tehsil and survived by his wife and two children. The village is surrounded by the areas like Koinmooh, which are notorious for terrorist activities.

Surprisingly Lance Naik was 24 years old when he left terrorism and chose the path of peace. He realized the true meaning of his name and set an example for others. He spread the message of peace and brotherhood among the people of this country. He has left the message for the youth, who have chosen terrorism over peace that they are going onto the wrong path. He gave the message that saving the weak and fighting the real enemies are the vital things that a human being must do. He would now be equally respected across India and unlike the hate mongering terrorists, who spew hate in India and one of its state Jammu and Kashmir, Lance Naik will be remembered for peace and tranquility.

In 2004, Lance Naik started his career with Territorial Army’s 162 Battalion and he was presently attached with the unit of Rashtriya Rifles. Naik was the decorated soldier of Indian Army and was awarded Sena Medal for gallantry in August 2007 and a bar to the Sena Medal in August, 2018. He took part in different anti-terrorist operations of the Army, mentioned by a senior officer. The officer said “The family was fighting tears and were honored by the sacrifice of Lance Naik for the nation”.

On Monday, his body was wrapped in the national flag and brought to his native village where the last rituals in his honor were performed. Tears were rolling down from the eyes of the villagers, who were gathered to bid farewell to him. His body was lowered in the grave and 21 Salutes were given in his honor. He left terrorism after realizing the futility of it and set the right example to emulate by the youth, who have gone astray. We can only hope that his footsteps would be followed by the misguided youth of the valley and they would contribute in bringing prosperity and tranquility in their own life and the life of others.
