Lance Naik DP Singh Made Supreme Sacrifice to Safeguard India

Lance Naik DP Singh was martyered on 13th December, 1971 while securing the borders of the country. He was commanding Section of a Battalion of Rajput Regiment during an attack on an enemy post on the Western Front. He identified two enemy medium machine guns in pillboxes inflicting heavy casualties on assaulting troops. Without paying heed to his own safety, Lance Naik lobbed the grenade on the bunker and silenced the enemy bunker. An enemy shot at him when was crawling towards next bunker but he kept on moving with high spirit and hurled the grenade on second bunker. His courageous act forced the enemy to flee from the battle field leaving behind machine gun and a large quantity of ammunition. He made the supreme sacrifice for the country and he was awarded Mahavir Chakra posthumously for his zeal, courage and devotion to the duty.
