Speaking at an event “Kashmir – The Way Forward” at the Observer Research Foundation in Mumbai, Mehbooba Mufti expressed her panchance to form a government with the help of Congress and National Conference (NC). To give strength to her expressed wish she mentioned that the Kashmir does not want to go back to 1947 and alternative to be found to Azad Kashmir within the framework of Constitution of India. While overlooking to the fact that Kashmir is an integral part of India and it has been an important issue raked up by Pakistan not only in every election but at every national and international forum, she said “India is never an issue during Pakistan elections. However, that is not the case in India”. It seems surprising that the former CM of J&K stills see J&K different from India, an idea that is generally promoted by the separatists from the valley.

The present response of the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir is also seen in the perspective of political parties’ apprehensions about the way the Governor of J&K taking decision apt and prompt decisions. Some of the people believe that the speed with which the Governor is taking decisions for building trust and bringing transparency in the governance system was opposed by the political parties from Kashmir Valley. The vital policy decisions like conducting Urban Local Elections and Panchayat elections, scrapping of medical insurance scheme, dissolution of state assembly to avert horse trading among political parties, treating Jammu and Kashmir Bank Limited as a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), banning ‘Sextortion’, establishment of first ever Real Estate Regulatory Authority etc. have not only improved the governance in J&K but it has also helped in building trust among local Kashmiris. But the response of the president of PDP shows that her main focus is only to gain political mileage by getting into coalition. Though it is difficult to predict that which party is going to form the next government in election of J&K but it is true that presently governance has improved in the J&K under the Governorship of Satya Pal Malik and it would be difficult for any party to bluff the people of Kashmir in the coming elections.
