Azad asks security forces to avoid firing at stone-pelters

Senior Congress Leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad called for a probe into the killings of 7 stone pelters at Pulwama on Monday. The stone-pelters generally throng at the encounter sites during the counter terrorism operations of the security forces and provide all the possible help that the terrorists need to escape safely. Two months back Sepoy Rajendra Singh from Uttarakhand was fatally injured during stone-pelting in Arwani area of Anantnag and later he succumbed to his injury in a Military Hospital. But overlooking the life threatening situation, which stone pelters create, the LoP said that the armymen should not target the stone-pelters. The LoP praised the security forces for eliminating the terrorists during the Pulwama encounter but he expressed grief on killings of innocent stone pelters, who were killed in Pulwama during counter-terrorism operation of the security forces. Three terrorists and an armyman were also killed in this encounter.
Even the CPI-M was also on the same page with the LoP and said that killing unarmed stone-pelters is unacceptable. They expressed serious concern over the killings of seven stone-pelters.
