   21-Dec-2018

Rifleman Dil Bahadur Chettri was in a battalion of Gorkha Rifles, which was given the task of clearing the enemy from Atgram on the Eastern Front. This was a well-fortified position and was held in strength by the enemy. During the assault, the enemy brought down sustained and accurate fire from medium machine guns inflicting heavy casualties. Rifleman Chettri, realising the importance of silencing the machine gun, in complete disregard of his personal safety, fought fearlessly, charging from bunker, killing eight enemy troops with his khukri and physically capturing the medium machine gun. His determination and cool courage was a source of inspiration to all ranks in his company and led to the capture of the objective. He was awarded Mahavir Chakra for his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the highest traditions of the Army.

Rifleman Dil Bahadur Chettri was born on 21 Aug 1950. He was the native of Charto Gaon in Nepal.
