In an interview to a group of journalists Pakistan Prime Minister said that the former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee told him that the Kashmir issue would have been resolved, had the BJP not lost the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. He added that the former foreign Minister Natwar Singh was on the similar page. “It shows that there is a solution of Kashmir and both countries were close to resolving it,” said Pakistan Prime Minister.

He ruled the possibility of war and said the two nuclear armed countries would not fight because “there are always unintended consequences”. On the question of formula to resolve the Kashmir issue, Imran said there were two or three solutions, which were discussed. But he did not share the details of it and said “it is too early to talk about them”. He stressed that the various options on Kashmir cannot be discussed unless there is a dialogue. He mentioned that India does not want to hold talks because of the upcoming general elections.

On the question on role of military in shaping the foreign policy in every country, including US Imran said “Advice from the establishment is taken in those issues where security situation is involved.” He said Army and his government are on the same page and his decisions are backed by the military.
