Governor of J&K likely to bring new juvenile justice law

According to some media reports the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir may likely to repeal the Juvenile Justice Act, 2013 and bring in the new Juvenile Justice law. This law may introduce the provision of adoption for the first time, which is being seen as the “breach in J&K’s Permanent Resident Act”. The Bill on The Jammu and Kashmir Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2018, has been finalized by the Governor’s administration and it will likely to be placed before State Administrative Council (SAC) today.

Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi, chairman of the state government’s selection-cum-oversight committee — an apex body for monitoring and evaluation of the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) — said his committee was still in the process of conducting public deliberations with various stakeholders.
Reacting to the media reports the political parties are already up (or raise) the ante against the expected decision of the SAC. National Conference (NC) already said that the Governor must not take decision on the sensitive issues and the same must be taken by the elected government. NC mentioned that Governor should refrain from making changes in the Juvenile Laws of the state.
