The accession of Jammu and Kashmir took place on October 26, 1947 to India. The state became an integral part of India since the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir signed instrument of accession in favour of India. In the charged environment of 1947, when the Pakistan Army was encroaching upon Indian territories and killing the innocent people of Jammu and Kashmir, the state acceded to India. India was in the favour of peaceful resolution of the problem; therefore, it went to United Nations against aggression of Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir. India filed a complaint against Pakistan aggression on Jammu and Kashmir on January 1, 1948 and urged the UN to stop Pakistan from creating havoc in Jammu and Kashmir and ask it to vacate the territories it has occupied illegally.

Subsequently, the United Nation Security Council met on January 15, 1948, where Mr. N. Gopalaswami Ayyangar, the representative of India stressed on removing the aggressor from the soil of Jammu and Kashmir. He stressed on the fact that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is grave and is a threat to international peace. He clearly mentioned to UN that the issue is not about the dispute of territory but aggression by Pakistani nationals. He even requested UN to ask Pakistan to refrain from aiding tribesmen and stopping its national from fighting in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan flatly denied the allegation and said that it has not been supporting the tribesmen invading Jammu and Kashmir. It even denied of any act of aggression on Jammu and Kashmir.

The Security Council passed a resolution and called upon both the governments to do everything possible to improve the situation and take necessary steps for ensuring that the situation must not aggravate further. Later Security Council busted the lies of Pakistan, when on July 7, 1948; the members of UN Commission for India and Pakistan were apprised by the foreign minister of Pakistan that Pakistan had sent it army in Jammu and Kashmir.
