Cash-strapped Pakistan will soon sell donkeys to earn foreign exchange

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa livestock department has decided to set up donkey farms as part of its donkey export plan with foreign partnership. In this endeavor, China has extended helping hand and entered into a contract for developing the donkey farms. An official was quoted, “Agreements will be signed with the Chinese government as well as registered companies”. According to the reports, around 80,000 donkeys would be exported in three years and the ailing and weak donkeys would be sold first. China is reported to have agreed to invest $3 billion in the donkey farm industry. Donkey is the important source of income for more than 70,000 households in Khyber Pakhtunwala province. According to officials donkeys are in demand in China as they are used for making medicines and furniture there.
