Lok Sabha election announced but dates of assembly election for Jammu and Kashmir are yet to be decided

The polling for six Lok Sabha seats of Jammu and Kashmir will be held in six phases. In the first phase on April 11, voting will be held for Baramulla and Jammu constituencies; in the second phase on April 18 Srinagar and Udhampur constituencies will vote and; Polling in Anantnag will be held on April 23, April 29 and May 6; while Ladakh will go to polls on May 6. In 2014 three seats of Lok Sabha were won by BJP whereas PDP wrested on 2 seats and 1 seat went to J&K National Conference. Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti won the Anantnag seat in 2014 general assembly election but she left it after she sworn-in the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in 2016. It is for the first time that the polling for the single seat, i.e. Anantnag, will be held in three phases. “We will have to carry out three phases of election for just one constituency of Anantnag,” Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said while explaining why the Assembly polls would not be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections. “So you can imagine how complicated it is.” The dates of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections have not been announced yet.
