   12-Mar-2019

Recently, the Election Commission announced the dates of Lok Election but it did not announce the dates of State assembly election in J&K. The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) cited a number of reasons for it viz. the lack of security personnel, safety of the contestants etc. The CEC went on to say that 3 special observers will be appointed for Jammu and Kashmir. They will take the stock of the situation on the ground and give their recommendation. CEC will meet the team of the observers and decide the future course of action accordingly. The three members team of observers includes Noor Mohammad and Vinod Zutshi, both are IAS officers of 1977 and 1982 batches respectively whereas A.S. Few districts of South Kashmir are the hotbed of terrorism and required massive forces for election

South Kashmir is the hotbed of terrorism and the majority of the cases of terrorist activities are reported in this region. Especially areas like Anantnag are vulnerable places. Even the general election of Anantnag Lok Sabha seat will be conducted in three phases. Since the entire country is going for the poll in this general election; the deployment of forces is required in other locations also. Therefore, CEC has yet to announce the dates of the J&K state assembly election.
