   16-Mar-2019

With the new mantra #MainBhiChowkidar Hu (I am the gatekeeper) for 2019, Modi onsetted its campaign for general election. He launched ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign on Twitter. In this video Prime Minister Modi, remind everyone that their ‘Chowkidar’ (watchman) is standing firm and serving the nation.

“Your Chowkidar is standing firm & serving the nation. But, I am not alone. Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying-#MainBhiChowkidar”. He even urged people to take a pledge of being a ‘Chowkidar’. PM will be interacting with the people on March 31, 2019, as part of the election campaign.

Rahul’s jibe on PM converted into election mantra

Though the Congress President Rahul Gandhi used these words to take a jibe at Prime Minister Modi and called him ‘Chowkidar Chor Hai’ yet his jibe has been converted to new mantra with #MainBhiChowkidar hu.

In 2014, PM converted Chai wala jibe to election slogan and won the election

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had called him Chai wala (a tea-seller) in 2014 that jibe was converted into election slogan and it was helpful in acceding him to the throne of Delhi. In his jibe, Aiyar said Modi can distribute tea but he can never become Prime Minister. Modi then converted the remark as a badge of honour and held Chai Pe Charcha (discussion over tea) to connect with the voters directly.

Modi has converted the jibe on him to an election slogan in 2014. This time also he did the same but the final result on May 23, 2019 will tell whether his slogan would be translated into people’s vote.
