China arrested 13,000 terrorists in Xinjiang since 2014 yet says no to declare Masood Azhar as a global terrorist

The Chinese government on Monday said that it has arrested 13,000 terrorists in the far western region of Xinjiang since 2014. In its policy paper, China defended its controversial radicalization measure. It even defended its move of the internment of Uighur Muslims in its detention centres, which China dubbed as “vocational training centres”. It is alleged that many people sent to these detention centres never returned back. All these things are done to avert the terrorists’ threat in the country.

Dilxat Raxit, spokesman for the Germany-based World Uyghur Congress said, "Counter-terrorism is a political excuse to suppress the Uighurs. The real aim of the so-called de-radicalization is to eliminate faith and thoroughly carry out Sinification."

Pakistan remained tight-lipped on the persecution of Uighur Muslims

Pakistan often rants about the atrocities on Muslims but closes its eyes on the plight of the Uighur Muslims of Xinjiang region.

China persecutes terrorists but does not consider Masood Azhar a terrorist

China said, since 2014, Xinjiang has "destroyed 1,588 violent and terrorist gangs, arrested 12,995 terrorists, seized 2,052 explosive devices, punished 30,645 people for 4,858 illegal religious activities, and confiscated 3,45,229 copies of illegal religious materials". But it does not consider the chief of proscribed terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, Masood Azhar a terrorist and even blocked India’s move to get Azhar declared a global terrorist.
