INS Khanderi: Second Scorpene Submarine going to be inducted in Navy

According to the defence sources, the Indian Navy is going to get the second Scorpene submarine ‘Khanderi’ by early May. Apart from it, other submarines are ready to be inducted subsequently, as they are in the advance stage of manufacturing and trial. The defence sources said, “Khanderi has completed all trials and is in the final stages of acceptance. It is expected to be commissioned into the Navy by end April or early May”. Khanderi is going through a series of trial since it was launched in January 2017.

 
 
 
Other submarines soon going to be inducted
 
Fourth submarine Vela will also be inducted soon during the same time. The first submarine of the class Kalvari has already joined service in December 2017. Third Scorpene series submarine Karanj was launched in January last year and expected to be inducted soon in this year. In addition, the Navy currently operates four German HDW class submarines and nine Russian Kilo class submarines.
