Pages and accounts linked to Congress and Pakistani military employees removed by Facebook

According to the report of Reuters, Facebook has removed 103 pages, groups, and accounts linked to Pakistani military employees. “Today we removed 103 pages, Groups and accounts for engaging in coordinated inauthentic behavior on Facebook and Instagram as part of a network that originated in Pakistan,” Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of cybersecurity, said in a statement. Gleicher mentioned that though attempts were made to conceal the identity of the people operating these pages yet its Facebook investigation team found that it was linked to employees of the ISPR (Inter-Service Public Relations) of the Pakistani military. The tone on these pages have strongly supported Pakistan and criticized India, which is similar to the tone used by ISPR.
 
 
 
“We’re taking down these pages and accounts based on their behavior, not the content they posted,” Gleicher said. The announcement of came at a time when it is facing flak over the misuse of its social media platforms by politically aligned groups, many of which conceal their true identity.

Even the 687 pages and accounts linked to the largest opposition political party Congress was removed by Facebook, as these were engaged in “coordinated inauthentic behavior” on its social media platform.
