The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has issued a notice to Sam Pitroda yesterday for saying ‘1984 mein hua to hua’ which has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh Community. Commission has asked Pitroda to explain his views on his remarks and tender an unconditional apology to the Sikh community. Congress leader Sam Pitroda kicked off massive controversy by trivializing the 1984 riots, in which thousands of Sikhs lost their lives.

A long-time loyalist of the Gandhis and one of the closest advisers of Rahul Gandhi, Pitroda has been actively engaging with the media and giving statements regarding his party’s policies and political vision.

Many Congress leaders were directly involved in the genocide of the Sikh community and one of the accused is given a plum position in Madhya Pradesh Government. The damage was done by the time Congress realized and acted to control the repercussions of Pitorda’s comments, especially when the party is struggling to regain its lost glory. Hence, Pitroda put the blame for twisting his words onto the BJP. But soon he realised that “Hua Toh Hua” is something that cannot be twisted by anyone and the damage has been done. He then started expressing ‘regrets’ for the 1984 riots and posted images for his visits to the Golden Temple.
