   27-May-2019

The state president of BJP Ravindra Ravinder Raina on May 26 said his party is for the early abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution of India. This statement of the state president came after the BJP registered landslide electoral victory in the country. Removal of both the controversial provisions is one of the polls promises of BJP during this election.

Defreeze 8 assembly seats reserved for POJK

Raina also expressed the confidence that the BJP will form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). He said the party will endeavor to defreeze the 8 seats, out of the total number of 24 seats that are reserved for Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) area. The unfreezing of the proportionate number of state assembly seats is a long pending demand of the people, who were displaced from J&K during 1947 and later when Pakistan invaded the state. But the previous state and central governments remained oblivious to their demands. These areas are still under the illegal occupation of Pakistan.

Articles 370 and 35A promoted injustice and benefitted on a few in Kashmir

He advocated for revoking of the cumbersome M-Form exercise for Kashmiri migrant pandits before the next Assembly polls. “Article 370, a temporary transitional provision, is the biggest injustice with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, while the Article 35A is a constitutional blunder which was included through back door without the consent of Parliament and the president...We wish the early abrogation of both these constitutional provisions,” Mr. Raina told reporters in Jammu. Accusing Kashmir-based politicians of “misleading” the people of the State on these articles, Mr. Raina said Article 370 is a “wall of hatred” and the main reason for the prevailing situation in the Jammu and Kashmir. Raina said, “Due to these articles, near about 100 families have looted all other families of the state for decades together”.
