   29-May-2019

BJP has invited the families of 51 BJP workers from West Bengal, who have lost their lives in the poll-related violence, to attend the swearing-in ceremony in Delhi on May 30. The saffron party has registered a landslide victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Narender Modi. The party which could win only 2 seats, in 2014, with 17% votes, has now won 18 seats with 40% vote share, which clearly reflects the surge of the saffron party in West Bengal. It is worrisome for Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, as the state will be going for polls in 2021.

According to the sources, at least 51 BJP party workers lost their lives in the violence during Panchayat and Lok Sabha elections. The families of these party workers will be among the 7000 dignitaries attending the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi. The family members will leave for Delhi on Wednesday by train and reach the capital under the supervision of senior party leaders of the state. Out of the total 51 invitees, 47 are families of those who were killed during Panchayat poll violence while 5 of those killed in the recent Lok Sabha election. The families are mostly from Barrackpore, Krishnagar, Nadia, Purulia, Malda, Bankura, West Midnapore, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, Burdwan, Ranaghat, Birbhum, and Cooch Behar. BJP has repeatedly said that over 68 party workers have been killed since Panchayat polls in West Bengal.
