In a startling revelation, it was found that out of total number of 3000 Facebook friends of BSF soldier Tej Bahadur Yadav, 500 are from Pakistan. This revelation raised alarm in the security establishment of the country because Yadav was posted at the border area of Jammu and Kashmir. A senior official of home ministry said, “A scrutiny of Tej Bahadur Yadav’s account showed that 17% of his Facebook friends are from across the border. And who knows how many of them are connected with Pakistani spy agency ISI. We also found that in all 39 fake Facebook accounts in his name are in circulation now and they are keeping the whole controversy alive”.

Yadav put out the selfie video alleging that the foodgrains meant for soldiers are diverted to open market by seniors. As a result, soldiers are getting sub-standard quality food. He was deployed at the high altitude bas near Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir, when he put his video on social media platform alleging about the poor quality food.

After the video of Yadav gone viral, BSF instituted an inquiry against him and the report is expected soon. Yadav had complained about the lack of ‘tadka’ (tempering) in the dal. Therefore, the inquiry has also looked into the availability of ingredients for ‘tadka’ such as cumin, ginger, onion and garlic at the base. BSF Jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav, was the SP-BSP candidate fielded against Prime Minister Narender Modi in this election, whose nomination has been cancelled.

The credentials of Yadav is questionable. On two occasions in March 2009, Yadav had made highly objectionable and abusive language against his seniors when he was asked to remain in high alert during naka duty. He had alleged that his seniors are issuing orders while they are sleeping, and threatened to shoot them with his rifle. In March 2010, a BSF inquiry had found that Tej Bahadur Yadav had used criminal force and inappropriate language for his superiors. Yadav had pleaded guilty on both the charges and requested for less punishment and pardon. The Summary Security Force Court (SSFC) at BN HQ 29 Bn BSF, Nalkata PO-Kumarghat, District Dhalal, Tripura had found him guilty, and he was sentenced to 3 months of rigorous punishment in custody of the force. His promotions were stalled for 3 years, and he didn’t get any salary, allowances during his jail term. The order sentencing him the 3 months of imprisonment also noted that he had already earned 3 punishments before that, and his general character was assessed as poor. Tej Bahadur was awarded 14 days of rigorous imprisonment in 1996, 7 days in 2003 and 28 days in 2007 on various charges.
