The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing a severe financial crisis, leaving its women cricketers unpaid for the last four months.
As the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 begins, with Pakistan’s first match against Sri Lanka, shocking news has emerged—Pakistan’s women cricketers haven’t received their salaries since June 2024. Despite this, they continue to play without pay.
According to reports, the players’ contracts, which run from August 2023 to June 2025, have been active, yet salaries from June 2024 are still pending. The PCB has acknowledged the issue, stating that they are working on it and will resolve the matter as soon as possible.
During the training camp in Multan, Pakistani players were not given their daily allowance since food and accommodation were provided. However, the support staff still received their daily allowance.
Interestingly, even the male cricketers in Pakistan have also not been paid for the last four months. This comes despite the PCB being the fourth richest cricket boards globally. Yet, Pakistani women cricketers remain some of the lowest-paid in the world compared to their counterparts in countries like India, England, and New Zealand, where women earn the same match fees as male cricketers.
Pakistan will face India on October 6 in Dubai, with the T20 World Cup final set for October 20.
