Decline in Terror Incidents in Jammu and Kashmir: MHA Report

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reported a significant decline in terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir compared to previous years. According to data presented by Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, 28 people, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 11 terror-initiated incidents and 24 encounters or counter-terror operations up to July 21, 2024.

Responding to a query by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pradeep Kumar Singh, Rai highlighted that 14 security personnel and 14 civilians lost their lives in these incidents. This marks a stark reduction from 2023, which saw 44 fatalities (30 security personnel and 14 civilians) across 46 terrorist-initiated incidents and 48 counter-terror operations.

In comparison, the year 2018 witnessed a much higher toll with 146 deaths (91 security personnel and 55 civilians) in 228 terrorist-initiated incidents and 189 encounters or counter-terror operations.
