In a landmark decision, the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Council has approved the transfer of Evacuees’ land to Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947, 1965, 1971, and West Pakistan Displaced Persons, granting them absolute proprietary rights. This decision, which extends the rights already granted over State Land, marks the fulfilment of a long-standing demand by the affected families.

The land will be transferred by the Custodian in a set time frame, with the Custodian General ensuring that no unauthorised encroachments take place.

The government has ordered that applications for ownership rights over Evacuee land be processed within 30 days, with the entire process expected to be finished in six months. The amount of land transferred will follow the limits set by the 1954 Cabinet Order and the Jammu and Kashmir Agrarian Reforms Act of 1976.

This decision fulfils a long-standing demand from families seeking ownership rights for decades, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting Displaced Persons.
