A team from the Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, will visit Jammu and Kashmir from August 8-10 to check how ready the region is for the upcoming assembly elections. Kumar will be joined by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu.

This visit is in response to a Supreme Court order from last December, which directed that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir should be held by September 30, 2024.

According to a PTI report, the team in Srinagar will first meet with different political parties. They will then check on preparations with the chief electoral officer and the central forces coordinator. The team will also meet with election officers, police superintendents from all districts, the chief secretary, and the director general of police to ensure everything is in place for the elections.

On August 10, the Election Commission will visit Jammu to meet with enforcement agencies. They will also hold a press conference to update the media on their review process.
