The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a plea filed by Gitanjali Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under the National Security Act, 1980 (NSA) and seeking his release.
The bench deferred the matter to October 29 after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Angmo, informed the court that she wanted to amend the petition.
Wangchuk was detained under the stringent NSA on September 26, two days after violent protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status left four people dead and 90 injured. The administration had accused him of inciting the violence.
The plea filed by Angmo challenges the legality of the detention and seeks Wangchuk’s immediate release from custody.
