
 
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th Jayanti at the Statue of Unity in Nandi, Gujarat, on Friday.
 
  
He participated in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade at the Statue of Unity. The parade was led by the women's personnel under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
 
 
"India pays homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th Jayanti. He was the driving force behind India's integration, thus shaping our nation's destiny in its formative years. His unwavering commitment to national integrity, good governance and public service continues to inspire generations. We also reaffirm our collective resolve to uphold his vision of a united, strong and self-reliant India," PM Modi wrote in a post on X.
  
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as the Iron Man of India, was born on October 31, 1875, in Gujarat's Nadiad.
 
He played a crucial role during the freedom struggle of India and was instrumental in the integration of over 500 princely states into the Indian Union.He was also the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of the independent India.
 
Patel died on December 15, 1950, after suffering a heart attack at Birla House in Mumbai.He was conferred the Bharat Ratna Award posthumously in 1991.
