People panicked and tried to run for safety. The peaceful celebration turned into a scene of fear and bloodshed. Police reached the spot quickly and stopped the attackers. One terrorist was killed on the spot, while the other was arrested after being injured.

According to media reports, the attackers were a father and son. The terrorists were reportedly identified as members of the Akram family, with one attacker named Naveed Akram, who was said to be of Pakistani origin. Security agencies are investigating their background and possible links to extremist ideology.

Police said on Monday morning local time that two gunmen - a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son - opened fire at Bondi Beach while the local Jewish community was celebrating the first night of Hanukkah. The 50-year-old gunman died and his son was hospitalized in "serious condition," New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said, as per CBS news.

The 24-year-old was identified as Naveed Akram, a Pakistani national based in Sydney, according to a U.S. intelligence briefing and a driver's license provided by Australian police, CBS News reported.

The attack has shocked not only Australia but the whole world. Australian authorities have clearly called the incident a terrorist attack. Leaders across the world strongly condemned the attack and expressed sympathy with the victims.
