Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended his warm greetings to all personnel of the Indian Navy on the occasion of Navy Day, celebrated on December 4.
 
In a post shared on X, PM said:
 
“Navy Day greetings to all personnel of the Indian Navy. Our Navy is synonymous with exceptional courage and determination. They safeguard our shores and uphold our maritime interests. In the recent years, our Navy has focussed on self-reliance and modernisation. This has enhanced our security apparatus.
 

I can never forget this year’s Diwali, which I spent with Naval personnel on board INS Vikrant. Wishing the Indian Navy the very best for their endeavours ahead.”
 
Indian Navy Day is celebrated on December 4th every year to commemorate the success of Operation Trident and Python during the 1971 India-Pakistan War. This day pays tribute to the Indian Navy's valor and achievements, particularly the decisive naval actions that took place on December 4, 1971.
 
Operation Trident (December 4, 1971):-
 
Under Operation Trident, the Indian Navy executed a successful surprise attack on the Pakistani Navy's western fleet in Karachi, leading to the sinking of several vessels and causing significant damage.The attack inflicted heavy casualties on the Pakistani Navy and disrupted their naval operations in the region.
 
The success of this operation showcased the effectiveness of naval power and had a crucial impact on the overall outcome of the war.
