Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra resumes after 22 day suspension

After remaining suspended for 22 days due to a massive landslide, the pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi resumed on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district. The landslide, which hit the route on August 26, had claimed 34 lives and injured 20 others.

Although, an attempt was made by the board to resume the yatra earlier, it could not start due to heavy rainfall. At the base camp in Katra, devotees from far-off places were waiting for the yatra to start. Many of them said, they will not leave without having Mata’s darshan, no matter what.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) announced the resumption of the yatra in a post on X, stating:

“Jai Mata Di

Vaishno Devi Yatra shall resume from September 17, 2025 (Wednesday) subject to favorable weather conditions. Devotees are requested to stay updated through official communication channels.”

Officials said a heavy rush of pilgrims is expected in the coming days, especially during the Navratri festival from September 22 to October 1.

Expressing relief, a devotee from Punjab said, “We were waiting eagerly for the yatra to reopen. Mata’s call cannot be stopped for long. We are thankful the path has been cleared and we can finally seek her blessings.”
