Heavy rains and floods in Pakistan have killed over 850 people and destroyed countless houses, roads, and buildings. Thousands of people have been displaced and forced to take shelter in relief camps, struggling to survive after losing everything.

At such a tragic time, Pakistani Defence Minister Khwaja Asif has made a shocking and controversial statement. He described the devastating floods as “a blessing from Allah” and advised people to collect floodwater in buckets and tubs for usage and storage. Instead of addressing people’s suffering, he asked them to accept the disaster as divine mercy and show patience rather than protest.

His remarks have sparked strong outrage across the country. The Opposition has condemned his statement, calling it insensitive, absurd, and completely disconnected from the ground reality. While people in Pakistan are mourning deaths and living in relief camps, Khwaja Asif’s remarks have only added to their anger and shown how insensitive the government is to their suffering.

According to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority, since the rains began on June 26, more than 7200 houses have been fully or partially destroyed, over 650 km of roads have been damaged, and more than 5500 livestock have died. Over 1100 people have also been injured.
