Two terrorists were gunned down as security forces foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday (September 28).
According to officials, the terrorists were trying to cross over from the Pakistan-occupied side when they were intercepted by troops, triggering a fierce gunfight. Due to heavy firing and the rough terrain, the bodies of the killed terrorists have not yet been recovered. The operation was still in progress when the last news came in, with reinforcements blocking possible escape routes.
This incident comes a day after a senior BSF official had warned that terrorists were waiting at launch pads across the LoC to infiltrate into the Kashmir Valley but assured that security forces were fully alert to foil any such attempts.
The Keran sector, known for repeated infiltration bids, has been under tight security, especially as such attempts usually increase before winter.
