Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra continues to remain suspended in Katra, J&K, for the 11th consecutive day due to continuous bad weather and unsafe conditions along the yatra route.

The yatra was halted on August 26 after heavy rains and a cloudburst caused a big landslide on the Adhkuwari route in the Trikuta hills, Reasi district. In that tragedy, 34 pilgrims lost their lives and about 20 others were injured.

Officials said the yatra is still stopped only for the safety of devotees, as there is still danger of more landslides and falling rocks. Repair work on the damaged path is going on, but no date has been fixed yet for resuming the pilgrimage.

Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra is one of the holiest pilgrimages for Hindus, drawing millions every year. The long suspension has left many devotees upset, especially those who had travelled from far off places to seek the blessings of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.
