India Advises Nationals to Leav

Amid the growing threat of a possible US attack and ongoing mass protests, the situation in Iran has become extremely tense. In view of the worsening conditions, the government has strongly advised Indian nationals living in Iran to leave the country at the earliest using all available means of transport.

The violent protests against the ruling Khamenei regime have raised serious concerns in India about the safety of Indian citizens in Iran.

According to reports, violent protests have been continuing in Iran for the past two weeks. The internal condition of the country is highly unstable and getting worse each day. The protests began on December 28, 2025, and since then, thousands of people have reportedly lost their lives. Human rights groups claim that more than 2,000 people have died, while some reports put the number above 3,000.

The crisis has also affected international travel. Iran suddenly closed its airspace on Wednesday, causing major disruption in flights between India, Europe, and North America. Airlines such as Air India and IndiGo were forced to change routes or cancel several flights, leading to delays and inconvenience for passengers.

At present, around 10,000 to 11,000 Indians are in Iran. A large number of them are students, including nearly 2,000 to 2500 Kashmiri students studying medical courses. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has expressed deep concern over their safety. Frequent internet shutdowns and ongoing violence have made it difficult for families to stay in touch with their children.

The Indian Embassy has advised all Indian citizens to leave Iran as soon as possible.“In continuation of the advisory issued by the Government of India on 5 January 2025, and in view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists) are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights," the advisory read.

However, student groups say that no clear evacuation plan has been announced yet, creating confusion and anxiety. Parents of Kashmiri students have appealed to the Indian government for immediate help to safely bring their children back home.

"We appeal to the prime minister, the external affairs minister, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and the lieutenant governor to evacuate the students from Iran," a parent told reporters, as PTI reported.
