US President Donald Trump has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be a part of “Board of Peace”, an international body aimed at bringing lasting peace to Gaza.
The invitation was sent through a formal letter by President Trump to Prime Minister Modi. The letter was later shared on social media by the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor.
In his letter, President Trump stated that it would be a great honour for him to work alongside Prime Minister Modi to strengthen peace efforts in the Middle East. He also highlighted that the Board of Peace represents a bold and new approach to resolving global conflicts.
However, India hasn’t responded to the invitation yet.
On Friday, the White House unveiled the list of people appointed to the "Board of Peace" to oversee phase two of his 20-Point Peace Plan to end the Gaza conflict.
The names include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Trump special envoy Steve Witkoff, President of the World Bank Ajay Banga, and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, the White House said in a statement.
The list also includes Apollo Global Management's CEO, Marc Rowan, and US Deputy National Security Adviser Robert Gabriel. President Trump will serve as the Chairman of the Board.
The executive board will oversee another administrative group called the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).
The 20-point plan includes making Gaza a de-radicalised terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbours and its redevelopment for the benefit of the people of the strip.
Apart from India, several other countries have also been invited to join the board. These include Argentina, Canada, Egypt, Turkey, Albania and Cyprus. Notably, Pakistan has also been invited to be part of the initiative.
Earlier, in October, Israel and the terrorist group Hamas had agreed to President Trump’s peace plan, which laid the foundation for the current ceasefire and diplomatic efforts.
