A fresh encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday after contact was re-established with holed-up terrorists, officials said.

Security forces had launched an intensive search operation in the area following an encounter two days ago in which one Para trooper was martyred and seven security personnel were injured. The terrorists managed to escape during the earlier gunfight, prompting continued cordon and search operations.

Officials said the search for the hiding terrorists was still underway when fresh contact was established on Thursday, leading to an exchange of fire. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area, and the operation is ongoing.
