
Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Police, in a joint operation with the Army’s 9 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF, arrested five terrorist associates and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession in the Khrewan Chadder area of Kulgam on Wednesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Tajamul Hussain Mir, Rehmat Ali Naikoo, Tehrim Ahmed Bhat, Manzoor Ahmed Bhat and Kifiyat Ahmed Dar. According to police, the operation was launched on the basis of credible inputs. Two pistols, three magazines, 40 rounds of 9mm ammunition and three grenades were recovered from the accused.
Police said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kulgam and further investigation is underway to establish their links and activities.
In a separate operation on Wednesday, Handwara Police, along with the Army and CRPF, conducted a joint search operation in the NagdaNar forest area following specific inputs. During the operation, security forces detected and destroyed an old hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition.
The recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, grenades, 857 AK rounds, 192 PIKA rounds, eight magazines, one silencer and 83 pistol rounds, police said.
