Delhi Police Register FIR Over Alleged Assault on Kashmiri Youth During Congress Protest

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR against unknown persons following a complaint by a Kashmiri youth who was allegedly beaten up at Connaught Place during a Congress protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The youth, who claims to be a fan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was allegedly roughed up by protesters a day earlier. The protesters claimed that he was verbally abusing Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. However, the youth denied the allegation and said he had only questioned the Opposition over its stand on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Speaking about the incident, the youth said, “I raised a question - when the Opposition wins, then there are no problems with the EVMs. Who brought EVMs? It was Rajiv Gandhi in 1998.

I am from Kashmir. I did not abuse Rahul Gandhi. I am a citizen of this country and I will not let this country become another Nepal.”

A video shared on social media shows a group of people surrounding the youth, pushing him, dragging him and repeatedly assaulting him.

The youth alleged that Congress workers attacked him for supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also denied abusing Rahul Gandhi.

Police said the FIR had been registered against unknown persons, and further investigation is underway.
