Punjab Police bust arms

Amritsar Rural Police have busted multiple illegal arms, explosives and drug trafficking networks, arrested 16 accused and recovered a large cache of weapons, explosives and heroin, Punjab Police said.

According to Punjab Police, the operation also helped solve three firing incidents. The recoveries include five illegal pistols, two sophisticated Uzi guns, two hand grenades, 34 kg of heroin and 26 live cartridges.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers who facilitated the supply of illegal weapons for distribution among criminal elements. Separate FIRs have been registered at Gharinda, Beas, Mehta, Lopoke and Chatiwind police stations in Amritsar.

Further investigation is underway to trace the backward and forward links of the networks and identify other people involved in the illegal activities.
