J&K: Houses of two LeT Terrorists Demolished in Anantnag after Policeman’s Killing; Over 2,000 OGWs Detained

 

Authorities demolished the houses of two active Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Anantnag during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, hours after a police head constable was shot dead while on Amarnath Yatra security duty.

 

 

The demolished houses belonged to Adil Thokar and Haroon Rashid Ganaie, both active terrorists. Officials said the action was taken as security forces intensified operations following the terror attack.

 

 

 

 

Head Constable Ashiq Hussain(45), was shot by a lone terrorist at Lal Chowk in Anantnag on Wednesday afternoon. He was rushed to Government Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

 

 

Police said large scale search operations are underway across Kashmir. More than 2,000 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs), including around 700 in Srinagar, have been detained for questioning. Security forces are continuing searches and verification drives, especially in South Kashmir, to trace those involved in the attack and those providing support to terrorists.

 

 

Later on Wednesday, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the District Police Lines (DPL) in Anantnag to pay tribute to Head Constable Ashiq Hussain. Senior police officers laid floral wreaths and offered a Guard of Honour, remembering his sacrifice in the line of duty.
