A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed during a joint anti-terror operation in the Chhanapora area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday, police said.The killed terrorist has been identified as Zakir Ganai.
Zakir Ganai was one of the two Lashkar terrorists first spotted by surveillance cameras in a dense orchard in the area on July 3. His body has now been recovered, confirming that he was killed in the operation.
With Zakir Ganai confirmed dead, security forces are now continuing the search for the second Lashkar terrorist, identified as Latif Bhatt.
Security forces had launched the search operation in a dense orchard in the south Kashmir district on July 3.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR), the Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, and the CRPF. The encounter had begun after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.
“You Can Run But You Can’t Hide! One Lashkar terrorist neutralised by SOG Shopian, in a Jt Op, along with RR and CRPF”, J&K Police posted on X confirming the development.
Security forces have maintained a tight cordon around the area. All possible exit routes through the thick orchard foliage have been sealed.
