J&K: Death toll in Kulgam terror attack rises to two as injured migrant labourer succumbs

The second migrant labourer injured in the terrorist attack in the Kellam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning, officials said.

 

The attack took place when terrorists opened fire on two labourers from Chhattisgarh. One of them was killed on the spot, while the other was critically injured and shifted to the hospital. With the second victim succumbing to injuries, the death toll in the attack has risen to two.

 

 

Soon after the incident, the Jammu  Kashmir Police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

 

Reacting to the attack, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on X:

 

“I spoke with the DGP, Shri Nalin Prabhat and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam in which a labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed. I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed our security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists.

 

J&K Police and Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Another injured labourer from Chhattisgarh has been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family and I am praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. J&K administration and the entire nation stand with the families.”

 

Meanwhile, security forces have launched a fresh search operation in the area to track down the terrorists involved in the attack. The area remains under a security cordon, and further details are awaited.
