Pakistan’s former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has been moved back to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after undergoing a detailed medical examination at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.

According to Al Jazeera, quoting Khan’s party spokesperson, the 73 year-old former PM was taken back to prison after his hospital visit.

Khan was shifted to Shifa International Hospital early Friday morning in line with the Pakistani Supreme Court’s August 18 order. The court had directed that he be transferred to the hospital within two days after a medical report said he was suffering from “level three plus” anxiety.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government had filed a review petition against the Supreme Court’s order, but it was rejected.

The former PM, who has been in jail since 2023 following his conviction in the Toshakhana case, was taken to the hospital amid tight security.

According to Dawn, around 800 personnel from different law enforcement agencies were deployed in the area for his transfer.

A PTI spokesperson later confirmed to AFP that Khan had reached Shifa International Hospital, saying, “The Supreme Court’s order has been complied with.”

The Supreme Court’s order came after Khan’s family and supporters raised concerns over his health and alleged that his condition was deteriorating while he remained behind bars.
