Iltija Mufti FIR,

An FIR has been filed against former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter, PDP leader Iltija Mufti, following a protest in Srinagar on the eve of the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. Police have alleged that Iltija Mufti assaulted a police officer during the protest while he was discharging his official duties.

According to police, Iltija Mufti allegedly assaulted a police officer while he was performing his official duties during the protest organised by PDP workers and leaders at SK Park outside the party office. Police alleged that she grabbed the officer and bit his forearm, causing injuries.

Following the incident, an FIR was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Besides Iltija Mufti, the FIR also names PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who was leading the protest. The case has been registered under Sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duty), 121 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from duty), and 191(2) (rioting).

Police have questioned Iltija Mufti as part of the investigation into the case.

The development comes a day after a separate police complaint was filed against Mehbooba Mufti over allegations that she disrespected the National Flag during a candlelight protest in Srinagar on August 4. According to the complaint, she was seen holding the Tricolour upside down, with the saffron band at the bottom, allegedly violating the Flag Code of India.

The candlelight protest was held outside the PDP headquarters after police stopped PDP leaders from marching towards Lal Chowk on the eve of the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.
