India wins eighth women’s Asia Cup, Refuses trophy from Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi

 

Dubai: India’s women’s cricket team lifted their record eighth Asia Cup title after defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai on Sunday. But the post-match ceremony turned into another embarrassment for Pakistan as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

 

 

Indian women’s cricket team head coach Amol Muzumdar said the side fully supports the BCCI’s stand of not accepting the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi. He said winning the tournament was 'good enough’ for the players.

“That stand has been taken by BCCI and we stand by it. For us, this tournament is over.

We’re the champions - that’s good enough. It was on the big board that India champions of Asia Cup 2026,” Muzumdar told reporters after the match.

The development mirrors last year’s Asia Cup when India also refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi after beating Pakistan in the men’s final in Dubai in September last year. Once again, India’s women made their stand clear, while Pakistan’s cricket chief was seen leaving the stadium in haste.
