New Delhi: The Indian Air Force on Saturday paid tribute to Flight Lieutenant Alfred Tyrone Cooke, a decorated war hero of the 1965 India-Pakistan War, remembering his exceptional courage and valour in aerial combat. Cooke displayed remarkable bravery during a fierce dogfight over Kalaikunda, showing exceptional fighting spirit and disregard for his own safety. For his conspicuous gallantry and tactical skill, he was awarded the Vir Chakra.
He passed away in Delhi on Friday.
The Indian Air Force shared a post on X, remembering the brave Air Warrior:
“All Air Warriors of the Indian Air Force extend their deepest condolences on the passing of Flight Lieutenant Alfred Tyrone Cooke, VrC.
A war hero whose courage is etched forever in the annals of military aviation, Flt Lt Cooke exemplified supreme valor during the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
“His legendary dogfight over Kalaikunda remains a masterclass in aggressive air combat and unwavering resolve.”
For his conspicuous gallantry, tactical brilliance, and disregard to personal safety, he was awarded the Vir Chakra.
