Pakistan: The death toll in the suicide attack at a mosque inside a police compound in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has risen to 31, including 16 police personnel, according to a senior police official cited by AFP. More than 100 people were injured in the attack.
The attack took place on Friday when a vehicle loaded with explosives was driven into the police compound while police personnel and their families were offering prayers at the mosque. The blast caused heavy damage to the mosque and nearby buildings.
After the explosion, armed attackers entered the compound and exchanged fire with security personnel. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals.
Several of the wounded are reported to be in critical condition. The attack is among the latest incidents of violence reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
