Major Chewang Rinchen along with his troops was assigned the task of capturing the Chalunka complex in the Partappur Sector, which was strongly defended by the enemy. Major Rinchen led his team under inclement weather and displayed aggressive spirit and hustling his team that was able to fight from bunker to bunker. He depicted the inspiring leadership, indomitable courage, initiative and exceptional devotion to duty. He was awarded Mahavir Chakra for his courage and valour.
