Defence ministry, Government of India is contemplating to consider the proposal to buy 10 lakh multi-mode hand grenades for the Indian Army under the ‘Make in India’ project in defence sector. “A proposal for buying 10 lakh hand grenades from an Indian firm would be considered by the Defence Ministry at a high-level meeting to be chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman this week,” said government sources.

India has already signed two proposals for modern rifles. The present proposal of over Rs 500 crores proposal is vital for adding the arsenal in the weaponry of Indian Army. Hand grenades are important and have been used by the soldiers during the war to destroy bunkers of the enemy, damage their position and causing heavy casualty to them. The new hand grenades are required for replacement of the existing HE-36 grenades manufactured by the Ordnance Factory Board.
