Amid the 21-Day lockdown, people across the country are cheerfully celebrating famous festivals like Ugadi, Navratri, Gudi Padwa, Sajibu Cheiraoba and Navreh. Navreh being a Kashmiri Hindu festival is celebrated by Kashmiri Pandits in each corner of the country. Meanwhile Priyanka Gandhi, the General Secretary of the Congress party through her social media handle carelessly congratulated the Kashmiri Hindus a happy ‘Nowruz’, an Iranian New Year.
Soon after, the Congress leader was flooded with reactions specially wisdom-advising messages with people wanting to clear her basics on the famous festival ‘Navreh’. People bashed Priyanka Gandhi for doing this blunder and not being clear with well-known festivals that are widely celebrated by the Kashmiri Hindu community across the country.
While the festival celebrated in India is called ‘Navreh’, Priyanka Gandhi assumed it to be ‘Nowruz’, a Persian New Year. Also, this is not the first time when the Congress leader committed the mistake, last year she wished the community with the festival of Iranians and not their own. In the last year too, people corrected her mistake promptly and asked her to find the difference between the two. Some also advising the leader to find better advisors so that she is clearer with the doubts or better do some research.
From today onwards, according to the Hindu calendar, this new festival has begun which is celebrated as the New Year in parts of the country. Similar to the festivals in different parts of the country such as Gudi-Padwa in Maharashtra-Saurashtra region, Ugadi in Karnataka, Bihu in Assam and Navreh in Jammu Kashmir.
