Ever since the independence and partition of India in 1947, the people of Jammu Kashmir has suffered hardships. Speak about the illegal occupation of a part of the state by then, newly carved West Pakistan or discuss about the acts of terrorism in the following decades. The region that hosts the beautiful valley of Kashmir has been marred with unfortunate events that have not let the people of “heaven on Earth” live in peace. To add to the misery, Article 370 of the constitution of India was applied on the state, that was recently abrogated in August 2019. Although, consistent steps taken by the current central government have resulted into drastic downfall in terror activities in the Kashmir valley, but past cannot be forgotten.

Pakistan sponsored terrorism, movements by separatist’s are problems that have been dealt with iron fist, but a bigger injustice still lies unresolved and that is the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus. Dominantly the region of Kashmir valley has more people following Islam than any other and so taking advantage, the terrorists, militants and separatist leaders disregarded local, ethnic Hindus and set a false propaganda amongst the Muslim population that the Hindus, including Pandits did want the Muslims to acquire higher posts in government and administrative services in Muslim-dominated Kashmir valley. This also included religious brainwashing of youth that in turn were trained to be staunch Islamic believers and Jihadis.

Then on 20th January 1996, the terrorists forcefully entered Samsuddin’s house and started misbehaving. On facing resistance from the family members, the terrorists killed seven people including a guest. Later, the miscreates spread the news that this was done by Hindus, but a statement given by an injured female victim of the unfortunate family soon exposed the lies spread by the culprits. She stated that the terrorists killed the family members because the family denied to help them further.
